After you fill out your account info, an email will be sent to the email address you specified. Once you receive the email (it shouldn't take more than a few minutes) open it and click the link or copy and paste it into your browser. The link will take you to a page that says you're verified. That's it!
You might want to check our junk mail or spam folder. The email will be from "admin@ysn.com" and the subject will be "Verify your registration at YSN.com". If you still can't find it email tech support at tech@ysn.com to have another verification email sent to you.

Internet Explorer: From the Tools menu, select Options. Then click the Privacy tab. Then change your privacy settings to allow cookies.
Firefox: From the Tools menu, click Options. Then click Privacy. Then click the Cookies tab. Then check the box to allow sites to set cookies.
Safari: From the Safari menu, select Preferences, then Security, then click the option to allow cookies.
After you change your settings you have to close your browser, open it up again and then try logging in. If that still doesn't work you might have a firewall or some other program that doesn't like to play nice with YSN.com. In which case you should probably email our Tech Support.

Career blogs are a great way to let your voice be heard. Whether you are CEO of a multi-million company or a twenty-something in between jobs, you can write all about your career related adventures, good or bad. You can keep the blog private or you can let others read it and leave comments.
Nope, not homework! Research Info makes it easy for you to track your favorite resources, links and research. When you find something online that you like - a web page, podcast, blog, photo, article, etc. - just add it here and we will keep track of them for you.
The key thing here is to keep it clean. YSN is a professional networking site and even though that doesn't mean you can't have fun, please save the spring break pictures for otherspaces on the web. Also, please don't upload any copyrighted images or videos since those could get you and us in trouble.
There are two ways to do this. You can conduct a search and from the search results page, there are individual icons to the right of each person's photo to block them. The other way to do it is when you are viewing a member's full portfolio. There is a communicate box at the top right of each persons portfolio where the option to block member is listed. You can unblock a member in exactly the same way; instead of saying Block This Member, it will say Unblock This Member.
Nope, they aren't chocoloate-covered granola bar thingies. Kudos are like giving props, a high five or a thumbs up. When you give a kudo to someone you're showing the world that you think that person deserves some special recognition for whatever reason. You don't have a limit on the number of kudos you can give out so go wild.
The activate/deactivate function is used if you want to hide one of your portfolios, professional or mentor. Deactivating one of your portfolios will not erase your information. You can activate/deactivate one of your portfolios by clicking the Account Settings link from you dashboard. On your Account Settings page, simply check or uncheck the portfolio you are wishing to activate/deactivate.

Anyone! However, the ideal mentor is someone who has already reached a level of success in his/her career and has something to share with the YSN community. Mentors are here to enrich the lives of those searching for answers, but they're also here to highlight their professional platform, identify qualified interns or fill job openings, and directly connect to ambitious, young professionals. If that sounds like you, we'd love to have you as a YSN mentor!
If you only have five minutes a day, you can still make a world of difference. And even when you don't have five minutes, you can change your availability online so no one bothers you.
As a mentor, you can participate as little or as much as you'd like. From answering emails and chatting with other YSN members to writing a blog and sharing your favorite links, being a mentor can involve many different things. But no matter how - or how often - you participate you'll be helping others out.
No, you lazy bum. At the top of your mentor portfolio, click on Quick Wizard. This will take you through the most important questions from each section of your portfolio. You can fill the rest in later by going to each section and clicking on edit.
If another member has a question for you, they can post it right here. Click on the question to view it and respond. Click on the number of responses to view the full reply.
We know everyone's schedules are different so we want to let other members know when and to what extent mentors are available. You can choose between the different frequencies at which you are available by clicking on the drop down menu. You can select as many or as few preferred communication methods as you wish by checking the boxes that apply to you.
If you haven't taken YSN's Self-assessment test yet, you can do it right here. From this box, you can also choose whether you want your test results public or private. This can be changed anytime.
This is where you get your props! All of the faces you see/will see here are members who've said your profile or advice has helped them out! It's like getting a shout out or even better, the nod.
This is where you can create, edit and add to your own career- focused blogs and let your voice be heard. Set up as many titles as you'd like and when you're ready to rant and rave, click Post. You can keep your blogs private or you can let others read it and leave comments.
This is the place to share articles, websites, books, etc. that you think would be helpful or interesting to other people. You can add or edit this section by clicking on the edit link at the top left of the research info box. From there, choose the section you want to add research to and click edit. From there, it's pretty self- explanatory.
There are two ways to do this. You can conduct a search for a member and contact him or her directly from the search results page. There are icons next to each person's photo for the different ways to contact them. You can also contact a member when you are viewing their full portfolio. There is a communicate box at the top right of each persons page where all of these options are listed.
No, we don't provide direct access to personal e-mail addresses but you can send a message to another user's YSN account. Once you open the lines of communication with another user, it's up to you two to trade e-mail addresses. We do this to protect people's privacy, so I hope you understand. It's nothing against you. Really. We think you're swell.
This is your chance to play matchmaker. If there are two or more members who you think would be able to help each other career-wise, you can introduce them to one another. Introduce as many people as you'd like by typing in their user name or choosing from your list of favorites. You can type in your own message or use our standard greeting. Hit Send and let nature take its course!
Send a Professional Introduction when you think that the users have a lot of things in common, like goals, industry experience, etc. Send a Mentor Introduction when you think someone could help guide or shape someone else's career.
It completely rips their heart out and destroys their self-esteem. Just kidding. If someone offends, annoys or stalks you, you can block them from being able to look at your portfolio. When a member is blocked they cannot view you or contact you on the site. You can unblock them later if you have a change of heart.
Yes, we do the breaking up for you. If a person tries to contact you after you've blocked them, a message will pop up saying "This person has blocked you from viewing their page." Rejection's never easy, is it?
Less than a lunch hour, more than a snack break. Less than an episode of Lost, more than an episode of Wheel of Fortune. So somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour, depending how quickly you answer the questions. But definitely don't rush yourself -- the more time you spend on the assessment the better your results will be. If you don't have enough time to finish it in one sitting, don't worry -- you can save your progress and finish it later.
Your Self Assessment results default to the private setting, if you wish to change this you can do so using the Account Settings link found on your dashboard and in the Table of Contents.
This is the best part -- unlike other online tests you've probably taken, this assessment doesn't involve a single round button that you have to click. Instead, the questions are asked in a game-like format that's both engaging and entertaining. We figured there's no point to developing one of the best online self- assessments ever created if people got bored taking it halfway through.
Everybody. From Uncle George to little cousin Jessica. From grandkids to grandparents, middle school students to middle school teachers and everyone in between. We believe that it's never too late -- or too early -- to learn more about yourself. It doesn't matter if you're the CEO of a company or in the mail room delivering her mail -- everyone has something to learn from this assessment.
The Assessment is based on nearly three decades of research work in the behavioral sciences, with current updates that use only 21st Century data in the statistical analysis. It is based on three definitive lenses of behavioral instrumentation: 1) Your internal values and motivations, 2) your external behavioral style, and 3) your perception of your ideal job culture. These three lenses combine with a variety of demographic and interest-oriented questions and themes to yield the most comprehensive self-assessment in the marketplace.

No assessment is perfect but ours is pretty close. Just keep in mind that your results should serve as a guideline and not an absolute truth. If something feels flat out wrong though, we encourage you to just cross it out. But check with some people you trust first. There may be things about you that even you can't see.

We've taken the best parts of the best
assessments of the past thirty years, updated them, analyzed them with new statistical procedures, stripped them of
the scientific jargon that makes you cross-eyed, and engaged some of the best academic minds in the assessment and
career counseling worlds to craft an assessment design that is second to none.
Right now the only way to take the assessment is through our web site. If you'd like to be informed about new YSN features, sign up for our free YSN newsletter.
While our self assessment offers insights and advice based on professional counselors, industry leaders and professionals, face-to-face interaction with a career counselor may provide additional help or guidance. We suggest you take our self assessment first and take it from there.
Right now the only language offered is English, but we plan on adding additional languages in the future. If you'd like to be informed about new YSN features, sign up for our free YSN newsletter.
What does it seem to be for you? Your own perception of the percent accuracy that it pegs you in your report is what's called your own face validity. Overall, no assessment is 100% accurate. None. Here we've aimed toward a face validity of 90% percent or higher. Read the report. See for yourself. Then tell us what you think!
You, the participant can provide that evidence yourself by taking our assessment, and comparing it to any other assessment you may have taken. You can be the judge.
Kind of flaky, are you? Just kidding. Once you click "Submit" at the end of the test you may no longer change your answers. But don't worry about it -- there's probably a reason you chose that answer in the first place... gut instinct. That gut feeling goes a long way in determining who you really are so it was probably the best answer to go with.
YSN Groups let you stay connected with other members who share similar interests, careers, hobbies, goals, etc. as you do. You can make new friends and colleagues, and keep each other up-to-date by posting and discussing the latest issues, news, images, articles and events.
Visit the group’s YSN homepage or do a seach and click the Join Group Now icon. If the group is public you will immediately join the group. If it’s private, a request will be sent to the group administrator who will decide whether or not to approve your request and add you to the group. You will receive a YSN message once your request has been approved/denied.
When you’re in the YSN Groups homepage, us the Create New Group link located on the left-hand side of the page. From there, you will be taken to the Create Group page and simply fill out the form on the virtual clipboard.
This handy-dandy feature lets you easily navigate the group pages. You can view your groups, search all groups, find the newest groups, create one or report a group that may be abusing our site.
On your Dashboard, there’s a box labeled “My Groups” where you can see all of your groups. You can also access your groups by clicking on My Groups in the Group Tools box on the top right corner of your screen when you’re in any YSN Groups page.
Anyone can view a public group’s entire homepage and join the group immediately. If a group is private, nonmembers will only be able to view the very basics about the group. To join a private group, you have to be invited by a group administrator or you can send a request to join that will be reviewed by an administrator.
When you visit a private group’s homepage, just click on the button that says Click Here to Join. You’ll be taken to a prewritten Request to Join Group page that you can edit if you wish. Just hit Send and your request will be sent to the person who created the group. You’ll receive notification in your YSN inbox.
There will be an Invite Members link on the group homepage for the creator or administrators to invite YSN members to join the group via a YSN message.
When you create a group, you will select whether you want your group to be public or private. As the creator, you can change this anytime by clicking Edit Groups on the homepage.
Whenever you’re in YSN Groups, just click on Search Groups link on the left-hand side of that page. You can search by group name, category, industry, country, state, city, public or private status, new groups, keywords and mentor groups.
The arrows let you sort the different categories in ascending or descending order, like highest to lowest number, earliest to furthest date, A to Z, etc.
A Mentor Group is created by a YSN Mentor. By being a member of this group, you can stay connected to the mentor’s latest tips, ask questions in the group’s discussion board, and learn about the events, news and issues the mentor is focusing on.
To post a new photo, click on the Post New Link in the Group Photos box on the right-hand side. If you’re a group administrator, the photo will be added instantly. Photos submitted by all other member will have to be approved by a group administrator. Please note that there’s a limit of 20 photos for each group. Oh, and keep it clean people or our spies will take it down.
A group administrator has to approve the photos before they go up online (keep in mind the 20 photo max for groups so an administrator will decide whether or not to post the photo). He/she probably hasn’t gotten around to it yet. To quote Guns ‘n Roses, all it takes is patience. Mmmmmm, yeeeeeeeeeeeah. Just a little patience.
The creator of the group can select up to four group administrators who can accept or deny new members if the group is private. They can also approve the photos submitted by other members.
As the creator, in the Group Members box on the group homepage, there’s a link that says Add/Change Administrators. When you click on that, you’ll be able to view all of the members with little check boxes next to their username/photo. You can check up to four people and then click on Update Group Administrators. If you already have four administrators, be sure to remove one before adding another. Done!
When you’re in the discussion board, click on New Thread, type to your little heart’s content and then click on Submit New Thread. Make sure to check back to see what other posted in that thread.
